There is a lot of talk about ancestral diets whether it’s The Primal diet, Ketogenic diet, Paleo, and now The Carnivore diet which is another name for the all meat diet. If you are wondering why The Carnivore Diet works for autoimmune disease then be sure to read the entire article.

What is the Carnivore Diet

The Carnivore Diet is a simple diet approach that includes eating only meat and animal products*. So foods like beef, fish, chicken, pork, and lamb. You can also consume eggs and some dairy when using this approach. Many people indicate the fatty meats and organ meats are desired as they are nutrient dense. In a nutshell, the Carnivore Approach is the complete opposite of the Vegan approach. Some people call this approach the zero carb diet. You can check out my animated video I did about this diet*.

Is The Carnivore Diet DANGEROUS?

There is little scientific evidence that proves that an all meat diet is bad for you* or detrimental to your health. On the flip side there is not a lot of evidence that an all meat diet is healthy, or ideal for human consumption*. One thing that is known is that human beings have survived and thrived on a multitude of diets around the globe. There are tribes of people such as the Inuit*, The Maasai, or The Sami who consumed mostly animal products due to their extreme climates.

Do we really need Vegetables to be Healthy?

I mentioned earlier humans have thrived on a variety of diets which include some diets low in vegetables. So the answer to this question is very subjective. Taking this into consideration it’s important to be mindful of how you feel with vegetables and without them. You can find a great article here that talks about vegetables and are they really required to be healthy.

In my experience with multiple autoimmune diseases I did not tolerate most fruits and vegetables early on. I found that as my gut healed I was able to add some well cooked vegetables and fruits with minimal issues.

What about the FIBER on The Carnivore Diet

When I decided to do my 1 month Carnivore trial I was worried about not getting enough fiber. But I was surprised that after a few days of doing all ground beef diet my bowel movements were very well formed. After the first week I consistently had “perfect trophy poops” based on the Bristol scale. Since my perfect bowel movements continued for the rest of the month I started to rethink my thoughts on fiber.

Most of us believe that we need fiber to make our stool bigger and scrub the intestines while coming out. Is fiber consumption really necessary? I found an article that shows reducing dietary fiber can reduce constipation*. Types of fiber and quality may matter in these situations.

I believe that fiber might work differently than we’ve been taught. The primary way fiber (fructans, Inulin, and cellulose) helps our digestive process is that it acts as a prebiotic that feeds our good bacteria. Gut bacteria loves to feast on prebiotics and it helps them thrive. This fiber helps improve the quality and size of the mucus barrier in the gut*. This barrier separates the bacteria from the gut wall. If the bacteria have no fiber to eat they can also eat the mucus of the gut wall. If this happens the immune system will go into high gear. It must be noted we are talking about insoluble fiber in the form of vegetables not whole grains. You can find some of the best fiber rich foods here.

Although this article is about the Carnivore diet I must remain objective to the benefits of consuming insoluble fiber. Since people like to raise borders and create rules on these fad diet protocols it must be noted that most tribal nations did consume some fiber when it was in season. I go back to staying mindful of your body, if you want to add fiber then do it. You’re the boss of your health!

Is The Carnivore Diet Ketogenic?

Yes! The Carnivore Diet is a Ketogenic diet where you would be in a state of nutritional ketosis. I have heard people say that high protein can kick you out of ketosis but I have not found this to be the case. I have tested myself multiple times while I was eating only meat Carnivore Keto and I was in ketosis. I’ve learned from my personal experience and experiments that carbohydrates drive ketosis. I’ve seen other people voice this who use PSMF (protein sparing modified fast) and still maintain ketosis. This is an awesome strategy for dropping additional body fat.

A strict carnivore diet would be more strict than your standard ketogenic diet where 30-50 grams of net carbs are allowed per day.

Who should use the Carnivore Diet

People who should consider using a Carnivore diet:

if you suffer from autoimmune diseases or conditions

people who are looking to lower inflammation in their bodies

individuals wanting to loose weight or specifically reduce body-fat composition

Because the Carnivore diet is an ultra low carbohydrate diet it gets rid of many of the problems that come with the SAD diet. Inflammation is reduced, autoimmunity is reduced, and body fat is reduced or brought back into balance.

Benefits of Carnivore Diet for people with Autoimmune Disease

Improved Gut Function*

Trophy Poops (perfect bowel movements)

Increase in Energy

Decreased Inflammation*

Improved Mental Clarity*

Improved Hormone production (cholesterol is precursor to every sex hormone)

Increases Testosterone (high fat diet and testosterone*)

Regulates Weight (gain or loss depending on the individual)

Decreases Depression & Anxiety

It’s important to note that a person who uses Carnivore will see most if not all of the benefits of someone who is doing a keto diet.

Why The Carnivore Diet works

There is no doubt that this diet has helped many people improve their health situations. But how can an all meat diet help people overcome their diseases? Here are a few reasons behind the success of this primal diet approach:

Helps restore the gut back into balance from “dysbiosis”

It’s a nutrient dense diet filled with lots of calories from fat, and fat soluble vitamins A, D, and K

#1 reason the Carnivore Diet works is because it’s The Ultimate Elimination Diet. The diet removes the majority of culprits that cause modern disease: sugar, processed carbohydrates, grains, veggie oils (pufas), lectins, FODMAP, and processed dairy.

**So the magic of the Carnivore or All meat Diet is a result of what the diet REMOVES.**

Does Carnivore Diet cure or reverse Autoimmune Disease

I believe the Carnivore diet is an awesome approach to healing autoimmune disease’s like Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, and Ulcerative Colitis. It also helps to dramatically improve depression and anxiety.

Any diet that removes or minimizes toxins, and increases vital nutrients will most certainly help you reverse your autoimmune disease.

Peoples RESULTS using Carnivore Diet

I urge you to spend some time reviewing peoples healing testimonials. You can get a first hand account how this diet approach has helped many people. I have found many videos of people talking about how Carnivore helped them beat their depression, anxiety, and reverse their autoimmune disease. You can see many testimonials of people who utilized this approach on the meatheals site.

How to Easily Start the Carnivore Diet

I think the easiest way to implement a Carnivore Diet is to dedicate 1 to 4 weeks. If your ready to commit try a month, if your nervous try it for a week and decide. Keep it simple try ground beef (1 cup) 2-3 times per day with butter (1-2 tbsp). Do this for 5 days and see how you feel. I believe you will feel pretty awesome and you will notice that inflammation from autoimmune diseases is reduced. The key to healing autoimmune disease is to keep it simple until symptoms are gone and then sustain healing as long as possible.

My experience Carnivore for month almost 30 days

I must say I felt absolutely amazing during the 4 weeks of this experiment. Make sure to check out the video to hear more about my experience.

Best Diet to Cure or reverse Autoimmune Disease Naturally

I’m an objective dude that believes you can use a variety of diet strategies to achieve remission from autoimmune disease. You need to be mindful of your body and what diet makes you feel best. Do not allow yourself to become self righteous or allow yourself to be bossed around by people who think that only their way works.

Perhaps there is no one best diet that works to reverse disease. But there are definitely common denominators among the diets that are most successful to naturally cure autoimmune disease:

Higher fat content

Low sugar intake

Consume Insoluble fiber aka prebiotics

Remove gluten

Get rid of processed “starchy” carbohydrates

Minimize or remove Lectins

Remove or minimize processed dairy products

Some of the most successful diet approaches to heal autoimmune diseases naturally are: Carnivore Diet, Keto Diet, Paleo, GAPS, LWB, Primal, and SCD Diet.

Regardless of which approach you choose you can tweak it and achieve awesome results. I wish you nothing but the best in your healing journey and feel free to reach out anytime.

Is DAIRY bad for Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis?

For the most part people who suffer from IBD’s do not tolerate dairy products very well. If they do consume them they usually do best with 24hr yogurt aka SCD Legal yogurt, butter, and some aged cheeses. I have heard of people having success with Raw milk (cow and goat products). If you have tried RAW milk products than please make sure to let me know how it worked for you.

I’ve been med free remission for close to 10 years and I still do not tolerate dairy in large doses. Yes I do consume half a cream in my delicious Americano everyday without issue. But if I was to have 2 creams in my coffee I would notice that my nose might start to run and I would experience post nasal drip which results in me making gross hacking noises. I get away with having some desserts during the holidays that were baked with dairy, or have cool whip. If I was to eat 5 pieces of pizza, or drink some milk I would experience some crappy side effects. These side effects would be some of the following: looser bowel movements, smelly farts, mucus, and nasal back up. My wife is against me eating excessive dairy products because she’s stuck sleeping with me… can you say dutch oven.

Should you consume Dairy if you have an Inflammatory Bowel Disease?

The best advice I can give is to be mindful of how you feel when you consume dairy products. I’ve spoken with many people who say they handle dairy without issue. Then I pry further I find out they have skin rashes. I suggest that they should discontinue the dairy for a week or two and see how they feel. They come back to me saying that it’s amazing their skin cleared up. Dairy is one of the leading culprits for: skin issues, chest phlegm, runny nose, and nasal congestion so please keep this in mind.

Dairy Alternatives for people with IBS, Crohns, and Ulcerative Colitis

I know it might seem difficult to stay away from dairy when we live in a cheese crazy country. But there are so many alternatives such as:

Almond milk

Coconut Milk/Cream (ice cream)

Vegan Cheeses

As I mentioned earlier people tend to do better with fermented products (predigested), yogurt scd legal 24hr, goats yogurt, raw milk, and aged or old cheeses. Each person might have a different tolerance to dairy so be mindful of how it makes you feel when you eat it.

Also if your early on in your healing journey dairy might completely set you off and that is completely normal. In this case stay away from it initially and only try 24hr yogurt, and butter.
