Are You Considering Surgery for your IBD?

I recently got an email from a dude who was in a bad place with his IBD. His Crohn’s Disease had gotten bad and was experiencing a long flare. He went to the doctor and they suggested surgery to remove his colon.

Ironically, he was in remission for over 5+ years using a low-carb diet until his health spiraled out of control. I asked him what happened? He said he was eating lots of garbage and drinking excessively.

I know it's a shitty situation as he’s tired of dealing with constant IBD symptoms. When IBD’s are active and flaring they wreak havoc on our daily lives. I understand why someone would seriously consider surgery if it offered a chance of having a normal life.

I'm writing this article because I want you to know you have options. You don't have to be stuck suffering with IBD symptoms.

Surgeries for Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis

In most situations, I’m not an advocate of IBD surgeries 99% of the time. Whether having a colon removed, getting resections, and most fistula procedures. I’m not a doctor trying to give you medical advice, just sharing some insight and providing a different perspective.

For the 1%, I think there are extreme situations like blockages and potential ruptures that may require surgical intervention. The challenging part is determining what situations possess real danger vs perceived fear (instilled by doctors and loved ones).

Can Crohn's & Colitis be Treated By Surgery

Standard surgery options for Ulcerative Colitis are usually a proctocolectomy. This is where your colon (large intestine) and rectum are removed. The 2 types of proctocolectomy procedures used to treat Colitis are:

Proctocolectomy with end ileostomy: where they remove the colon, anus, and rectum to create an external ostomy.

Proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (J Pouch): A surgery where they remove the colon and the rectum to create an internal pouch which eliminates the need for a permanent ostomy. This is the most popular surgical option for colitis patients as it helps to restore bowel function.

Standard Surgery options for Crohn’s Disease are some of the following: Colectomy, Bowel Resection, Ileostomy, Fistula Removal, Strictureplasty, and a few others.

Colectomy: Removes your colon, but leaves your rectum intact.

Bowel Resection: Removes a part of your small or large intestine (diseased tissue) and connects the 2 healthy ends

Ileostomy: Reroutes your poop whether temporarily or permanently using a hole in the belly called a stoma. This can be done to let your intestines heal from inflammation or to reduce inflammation. The stool then drains into an ostomy bag or j pouch.

Fistula Removal: Where a fistula is opened up, drained, or removed because it hasn't responded well to medication.

Strictureplasty: Where a surgeon widens your intestines which may lead to potential blockages.

Results Aren’t Guaranteed

You can go through the entire process and your symptoms might not improve. An expensive process whether the: surgery, hospital stay, recovery, or time away from work.

In my experience, positive results are usually short-lived and work until they don't! IBD symptoms can return after surgery +. Too many IBD patients have to get future surgeries. Many people with Crohn’s Disease have 3-5 resection surgeries over the years to remove more diseased tissue. Sooner or later you’ll run out of tissue and could be facing a death sentence.

Hopefully, you’ll be one of the lucky ones who gets 1-2 resections and feel good for the rest of your life. Very few people end up being this lucky! I’m not trying to be a downer, just keeping it real.

IBD surgeries aren't always successful

Surgery is Not a Cure

Many doctors are quick to suggest IBD Surgery, but It's important to understand surgery is not curative +. In the future I hope allopathic medicine realizes we're too quick to suggest surgical intervention. Making this type of decision should be handled with the utmost care and never made out of fear or pressure from anyone.

Pros & Cons of Surgeries for Crohn's & Colitis

This is a QUICK surface level List

Feeling crappy for extended periods of time creates tunnel vision that leaves you feeling hopeless. You forget how it felt when life was good! A time when you didn’t suffer from IBD symptoms and enjoyed life. This tunnel vision completely normal, and you need to realize your situation is temporary.

I find the easiest way to do this is by taking personal responsibility for my situation. Am I responsible for my situation?

Have I been eating a good diet?

Have I been overdoing junk food or garbage?

Is there a diet or protocol that I haven’t tried yet?

Have I been properly managing my stress?

Going through these questions will show you if you're partially responsible for your current state of health. It's easy to lie to others, have a pity party, but It's hard to lie to yourself! Deep down you know the truth one way or another. Prompting these questions is to make you admit your responsible for your situation.

Because if you're responsible then you can change your situation. You don't have to be stuck feeling crappy. Change your behaviours and your life will change dramatically.

100% Inflamed to Healed

I’ve lost count of the people I’ve spoken with who went from a full-blown disease state to remission. This included people that suffered for 20-30 years with severe Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis and then achieved remission. People who were scheduled to have their colons removed but canceled their surgeries to try a new diet. A few months later they felt better than ever.

The Body Knows How to Heal

Too many people like to complicate healing. Healing is built into the DNA (intelligence) of your body. Consider the last time you cut yourself, did it heal? If your answer is YES then don’t worry because your body still remembers how to heal.

How to Reverse Your Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis

As I said before, your body knows how to heal. You just need to make some changes in your life and let your body do it’s thing. Stop over thinking every little detail and doubting your ability to heal.

The following list is simple and to the point but If you're looking for a longer explanation you can access my free guide at the bottom of this article.

Adopt a Low Carb diet like Carnivore, Keto, Paleo, or SCD (Carnivore is my favorite in the beginning because it’s simple and it works as it removes the most inflammatory foods and 99% of people tolerate protein without issues)

Keep the carbs low "initially" (less than 30-50 grams per day) Carbs, especially complex carbs spike insulin and promote an inflammatory environment. Anything that normalizes insulin will have a positive effect on inflammation.

Remove Sugar & Gluten (both contribute to inflammatory process)

Eat Animal Protein Your body is the equivalent of a 3D printer that requires protein and fat as raw materials to rebuild tissue and heal. Sorry Vegans! You will not achieve long term remission from Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis using a Vegan Diet. This is the rule and I don't care about the odd and rare exception.

Sleep 8 hrs per day.. Hard I know, but if your sick you need this time to heal, fix damage, and calm the immune system (SLEEP is magical) Make your sleep a priority and it will reward you!

Move your body: walk, hike and preferably outside. This helps cleanse your cells!

Strength Training 1-2 times per week max if your sick or flaring. Too much strength training is taxing on your immune system and will do more harm than good. Repairing muscles takes important energy away from healing your IBD. Most people reading this should probably wait until their condition is stable before doing strength training. Focus on walking, hiking, then try some push ups and pull ups. If you do good with then try a few work out sessions and see how they affect you.

Address Your Stress: Remove negative toxic people, let go of resentment from your childhood especially towards your parents, and forgive people. Forgiving people is for you, not them. The emotional stuff is no joke and is crucial to address if you're serious about overcoming your IBD. Psychological issues have physiological consequences that manifest in the form of disease in our bodies.

Take Cold Showers or do cold plunges in the bathtub when you wake up, it will reset your immune system, improve circulation, and wake you up quickly +. This will turn down the inflammation and give your body a chance to heal. During this time your body will purge toxins and cleanse organs like your liver which will improve your health dramatically.

Reversing your IBD is Better than Surgery

Reversing your IBD takes time and requires GRIT but it's worth it! When you commit to healing, your body will reward you in direct proportion to your effort, discipline, and dedication.

For many people surgery seems like their only hope. But in most cases people are relying on what they believe to be an Easy Fix. Most surgeries don’t give you instant results and if they do they're usually short lived. I’ve watched countless people go from one operation to the next chasing better results only to end up further away from remission.

Reversing your disease is a long term solution. By changing your behaviors you're addressing the underlying cause of your IBD. Once you’ve removed the factors that cause inflammation your body will heal and regenerate.

Personal Responsibility

This is probably one of the most important concepts if you're looking to have a good life. Growing up in a poor single parent household I wasn’t taught this concept. Instead I grew up blaming the world and my circumstances for my troubles, stress, and the things I didn’t have. In essence I embraced being a victim until my worldview changed.

Personal Responsibility is when you take full accountability for your actions, decisions, and thoughts. When you hold yourself responsible, it leaves very little room for blame games, and you develop better control of your life.

Your life will change when you shift from being a victim, to accepting responsibility for your disease. It may not all be your fault but admitting you’ve played a vital role will help you change.

If you can make yourself sick THEN you can make yourself well! At the very least, you can dramatically improve your IBD symptoms.

You Can Turn Your IBD around in 3-6 months

I know this may be hard to believe at the moment if your feeling that TUNNEL Vision. But you can change your life and go from barely surviving to thriving. Go search for online testimonials if you need something to motivate you.

You can beat this crappy disease and get back to living a life that excites you! A life that's filled with happiness, goals, dreams, and people to enjoy these experiences with.

Right now you're thinking that this autoimmune disease is a curse but one day you'll be grateful for it. We live in a world that's so fast paced, we have everything but feel like we have nothing, chasing likes, always scrolling, rarely present, and somehow never truly happy. When you overcome your Crohn's or Colitis it will be like a fresh start or a second chance at life. You will be more grateful for time and experiences because you know how it feels to have these things taken from you.

I'm grateful everyday for my diagnosis because without it I wouldn't be trying to pay it forward to someone like you. Trust me, you can do this! I look forward to hearing your story after you achieve long term remission.

You Got This!

Long term IBD Remission is Possible

I want people to know long term remission is possible. You can achieve Crohn's & Colitis Remission without Medication. You might be reading this newly diagnosed, or experiencing a flare. Either way you’ve likely felt depressed and hopeless along your journey. One minute you're planning your life out, excited by what the future holds: career, business, relationship, family, fitness, or enjoying being young and adventurous. The next minute you're diagnosed with a degenerative disease and your dreams go down the toilet.

The unfortunate part about our autoimmune diagnosis is we’re typically bombarded with fear. We're Informed our future will be filled with: surgeries, drugs, complications, and things we won’t be able to do. Then we go to google and find the lifelong “victims” and their stories scare us even more. The world seems very small when you’re sick and in pain.

You Can Beat the Odds

I think you’re beating the odds if you're reading this post. Never has there been a better time to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. There are so many options with diets and supplements that can change your life. You may have to dig a little but you can find testimonials of people that healed from Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis.

I started my journey before Youtube really became a thing. It was almost impossible to find inspirational stories. Consider yourself extremely lucky to have an autoimmune condition in such a hopeful time.

Have I Lived a Normal Life?

Not even close! I’ve lived a Blessed life.

I grew up in a poor single parent family in a violent area of my city. We ate the Standard American Diet filled with processed high carb garbage. I went through adolescent stress that led to me being diagnosed with multiple autoimmune conditions. Somewhere in the middle of the chaos I found solutions that changed my life.

I decided to change my lifestyle and my symptoms disappeared. I went from being 130 lbs skin and bones to 175-180 lean and muscular. My confidence came back, I became a better version of my previous self. With my new confidence I met the love of my life. I married her, we have a very comfortable lifestyle, and were blessed with 2 beautiful daughters. Having a family shaped me into a man I’m proud to be.

I initially thought my autoimmune diseases were a curse, but I now realize they're a blessing. I was forced to change my lifestyle and through that process I found purpose in helping others. I hope one day you'll see your diagnosis as a blessing, and I look forward to hearing about it.

How Long Have I Been in Remission

I had to go back and look at a video when I had my last major flare. The video said it was 13 years ago which means I’ve been in remission between 12-13 years. I got back into remission 2-3 months after my flare in Hawaii.

Do I Have Flare Ups?

Simple answer is NO. But I’ve fallen off the wagon with my diet & supplement program and felt pretty crappy. Usually this happens during the holidays when I binge on sweets or when we take all inclusive vacations and drink too much. When this happens I tend to get loose bowel movements, joint pain, and nausea. It’s corrected when I go back to my 5:2 routine.

I’ve gained wisdom through making tons of mistakes. I’m an expert in knowing what NOT to do, but that doesn’t mean I always follow my own advice. All jokes aside, I know when I’ve overdone consuming garbage. I act quickly to get back on track.

What Does Remission Feel Like?

It feels like FREEDOM ! Freedom to do the stuff you enjoy without worrying about your condition.

Before I achieved remission I had a laundry list of diagnoses and issues:

Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis

Anal Fistula

Intestinal Narrowing

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Asthma

Raynaud's

Spondylolisthesis

Eczema

ADHD

Dyslexia

Depression & Anxiety

These issues affected every aspect of my life. I’ve come to the opinion that these individual labels are all part of the same disease process. A process where the body’s cells are impaired, toxic, deficient, and leaky. When you heal the body through diet and lifestyle the majority of symptoms disappear. As I healed: my fistula closed up, eczema, joint pain, back issues, asthma, and intestinal narrowings all went away.

Your progress might be slow and will require some tweaking. Once you achieve remission your body works on healing the older damage. As time goes by you stop worrying and stressing about your disease, and the months turn into years without issues. Soon enough stop talking about your IBD, considering it's something that once defined you.

How Did I Get Into Remission

This is a loaded question, so I’ll give you the short version.

I changed my diet and lifestyle by adopting a low carb diet (SCD Diet), and used various supplements. My condition improved but I didn’t get into remission. I continued to Tweak Forward by transitioning my diet a few times: Paleo, Keto, Carnivore (Zero Carb), and settling with a hybrid 5:2 program. It was a trial and error process, where I constantly went back and forth until I figured it out. For more info on what I did to achieve remission check out my free e-book at the bottom of this post.

How Long Did it Take to Get into Remission?

It took approximately 1-2 years to get into Remission from Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis. It took so long because I had no idea what I was doing, there was no plan or template. I spent lots of time and money doing too many things hoping one thing would be an instaCURE. A horrible approach that always felt like I took 1 step forward then 3 backwards. Another BIG mistake is I was always rushing healing by trying to add foods and eat garbage. My symptoms returned and I felt like I was back at square 1.

You have the privilege of learning from my mistakes. Every time I regressed it was because of my own doing, and I own that 100%. I think most people can achieve remission in 6-12 months. Most of the surface healing happens very quickly. Your pain, urgency, blood in bowel movements, and your diarrhea will be gone in 30-60 days. Great news, because most of the discomfort comes from these symptoms. The other symptoms may take longer to heal such as: anal fistula, intestinal narrowings, eyesight, ADHD, cognitive improvements, and others.

Always remember you’re playing the long game, so take your time and focus on healing. Don’t worry you’ll get to enjoy some cheat foods and have a good time. When it comes to healing you will be rewarded for your discipline.

Do I visit the Doctor Regularly?

My last visit to a gut doctor was about a year after I got into remission. Even though I felt awesome I needed someone to validate my results so I scheduled a colonoscopy. The results came back clean, and the doctor was confused because I was on ZERO medications. He responded like most western doctors, keep doing whatever you’re doing and I’ll see you in 6 months.

I think we’ve been taught to be customers of the medical system. We doubt our bodies' natural ability to heal and cleanse themselves. Many IBD patients feel it’s necessary to have regular colonoscopies to check on their disease. I'm not in favor of frequent colonoscopies as they're unnecessary and dangerous (see my previous video). They increase your chances of flaring up afterwards as they wreak havoc on your gut flora. It’s very important to repopulate the gut with beneficial bacteria after a colonoscopy.

I’ve lost faith in allopathic medicine as their results speak for themselves. They're great with acute situations but not so good at reversing disease, achieving health, or maintaining wellness. The majority of the system has turned into neverending sick care. I’ve been at medical appointments and watched the doctor Google things just like you and I. This isn’t reassuring for any patient who is coming to the doctor for answers. With that said there’s been great results and development in functional medicine. A system of medicine that addresses underlying causes of illness, and doesn't just prescribe medication to mask symptoms.

Do I Struggle?

Of course, I’m human and my temptation for junk food is always there. The struggle is trying to enjoy cheats and not overindulge. I find seasonal holidays to be the most challenging as there are so many food distractions. Our family dinners are huge, 25+ people and the dessert options are insane. My carb addiction is desserts as I have a crazy sweet tooth. Over the years I’ve learned a few tricks to ensure I can enjoy the holidays and not feel like garbage.

Having discipline is one of the fundamentals pillars if you're looking to overcome your Autoimmune Disease. Discipline will dictate your success. What you put in your mouth directly affects your condition.

How Do I Stay in Remission Long term?

After I achieved sustained remission (6-12 months) I switched to a 5:2 Program. This means that 5 days a week I consume LCHF (Low Carb Higher Fat) diet and 2 days I enjoy a few cheat meals. On the LCHF days I usually keep my carbs under 50 grams and majority of my calories come from animal products. The LCHF approach I use for label purposes is Keto-Carnivore

On the 2 days (usually weekends) I have a good size cheat meal and a delicious dessert. I usually fast for at least 12-14 hours per day on all 7 days and this is built into my lifestyle. If I snack on my cheat days I usually do it using LCHF foods no less than 2 hours before my cheat meal.

This system keeps me on track 70% of the time and lets me enjoy some treats. Let's be real, nobody wants to be on a restrictive diet forever and that’s why my 5:2 system works. I’m only a few days away from enjoying my favorite meals.

Without a doubt I feel my best during the 5 days of LCHF. My mind is sharper, I feel more lean, no joint pains, and my energy is better. But humans gravitate towards foods we’re not supposed to have which is why the 2 days keep me motivated.

Conclusion

I’m an ordinary dude who had multiple severe autoimmune conditions and changed my life around. Early in my healing journey I doubted myself constantly. I Always thought my diagnosis was worse than others who overcame their conditions. Hindsight, this was just my ego trying to sabotage my healing. (Your ego might be doing this now)

By now I hope you believe IBD remission is completely possible. It’s not luck! If you do specific things you get a SPECIFIC outcome. You’re lucky because you have technology and platforms that share success stories, unlike any time in history.

I don’t believe in luck in a traditional sense as I think luck is well within your control. If you get lucky and overcome your autoimmune condition it's because you put in the time, effort and discipline required to get there. Getting lucky will require you to improve and tweak forward even when you feel crappy.

Let's say I’m full of it and you don’t achieve remission. I think the worst case scenario is that you exponentially improve your condition. It's truly a win-win situation!

I have faith, you got this!

IBD’s and Alcohol: What to drink and what NOT to drink

People think that if you have an Inflammatory Bowel Disease like Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis that you shouldn’t take a sip of alcohol. In a perfect world that might be the case. In reality, most of our social interactions revolve around some form of drinking. Not having a drink isn’t always an option.

I get it, you want to have fun with your friends, feel like you fit in, and there is nothing wrong with that. I’m writing this article because like you I’m a human being. I enjoy having a drink and I want you to be able to do the same. Pretending that someone with an IBD will never have a drink is completely naive!

The key is learning what you can do to minimize or eliminate negative side effects.

Is it SAFE to Drink Alcohol with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis?

I bet you’re wondering if you can drink with an IBD? You might think all forms of alcohol are bad for your IBD’s? I don’t think that anyone can give you a black and white answer with this. For most people it depends where you are in your healing journey that dictates what you are able to tolerate. Some people might not be able to consume any alcohol without causing them issues. If this is you don’t worry because as you heal you’ll be able to enjoy a few drinks.

Which Alcohol is the safest for people who suffer from IBD’s?

In my experience people tolerate these the best options:

Vodka

Tequila

Rum

GIN

Dry red or white wine, champagne (lower the sugar the better)

RYE (try with caution because usually contains gluten)

Worst Alcohol for Crohn’s & Colitis

The BIGGEST offender when it comes to drinking with an IBD is undoubtedly BEER! It’s fermented beverage that contains lots of yeast. Beer is a NO GO! since virtually everyone with gut issues will have underlying issues with Candida (yeast). You’ll find drinking 1-2 beers will likely cause IBD symptoms such as:

Bloated & sore stomach

Redness & pressure increase of eyes

Loose bowel movements

in excess FLARE Ups

Best Beer for Crohn’s & Colitis

I’m telling you from experience it’s not worth trying to drink beer. If you think you can tolerate it I urge you to test it by drinking 1/2 cup or less and see how it makes you feel. Beer tends to give most normal people without IBD’s, gas and bloating the next day. Even after 10 years of remission I don’t feel optimal when I consume beer. This sucks because I enjoy a cold beer on occasion, but my problem is only having one.

If you decide to go Rogue and consume beer consider trying Low Carb Options like:

Michelob Ultra

Corona Premier

Miller Lite

Budweiser Select 55

I’ve learned to love RUM and it’s now my drink of choice. Only 1-2 times per year do I have a Cold Corona with a lime.

Don’t ABUSE IT

Try not to abuse alcohol as it can be an IBD Trigger. If your going to have a night out then pace yourself. Have a few drinks and try not getting completely blitzed.

You can see in a previous study that alcohol with sugar and yeast caused the most gut issues.

DRINKING TIPS for Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis :

NO BEER! (Avoid as much as possible)

Ask for your drinks to be served tall with with just a little bit of ice. This way you can milk your drink for longer without having to get another one.

Have water in between drinks (spread out your drinks and minimize the effect on your gut)

Everyone has their thoughts about diet pop but but I would suggest using it over regular sugar laced cola products. Another alternative to pop is a product called Zevia (sweetened with stevia) which you can buy at your local grocery store or whole foods. Root Beer is my favorite!

Now Coca Cola has a new Stevia infused option which tastes pretty good

You can try “pressing” your drinks with water or club soda and try adding some stevia for sweetness.

Get a water and lime and simply pretend you’re drinking. I’ve done at parties and the club and it works! Nobody knows they just see you drinking.

Blame the gym and say your keeping the drinks to a minimum to stay lean (Hard to diss someone who’s just trying to grind to look good)

Make sure to take a good probiotic (1-2 capsules) when you get home from your night out. Do this every time you have a few drinks, no exceptions.

What IF I drink too much Alcohol (Recover without Flaring)

I’m not an advocate of drinking too much with an IBD but “life” happens. I’ve been out with my buddies where I say those infamous words “I’m only going to have one or two” which leads to 8-10+. I end up hammered and my gut has paid the price. I end up getting the hershey squirts and feel like crap! This is bad because your body dumps a lot of your good bacteria in an already compromised gut.

So if you end up in this situation: make sure you take at least 2 probiotic pills as soon as you get home. Then you need to take 2 more in the morning once you’ve cleared everything out of your system. Your stomach is going to feel pretty tender and you probably won’t have much of an appetite. Try not to force eating and give the probiotics as much time as you can to do their thang. Try to fast (not eat) as long as you can to give the gut time to recover. Fasting also minimizes the immune responses to food since nothing is going in. If you decide to eat make sure to keep the carbs low and also stay away from nuts or beans to minimize lectin exposure. I’ve used this strategy multiple times and was never thrown into a flare because of drinking too much.

I’ve Been in your shoes

I remember what it’s like to be in my early 20s where I hit the club like 3-4 times a week. It can be difficult to go out with your friends and feel like the odd ball. You might slip up and I wrote this article to help you get through these times.

Remember you’re playing the long game right now, which is to achieve long term remission. Once you heal your gut you can be less strict. I believe that once you experience what it feels like to feel truly awesome, you won’t care about being like everyone else.

In Conclusion.. drinking Alcohol with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease

I know you are going to drink so try and do it with caution. Be mindful of how you feel afterwards or the next day. I’ve had a few experiences where I overdid it, and paid the price. I did the stuff I mentioned in this article then got back on track. Healing is not a perfect science, you are going to make mistakes (fail forward). Don’t beat yourself up about it, learn from it and get back to healing. You got this, trust me!

Im 35 years old and I’m passionate about health and I try not to overdo the drinking. When I go out with my friends I rarely exceed 4 drinks a night. I own who I am… a dude that enjoys a drink, but cares more about being healthy. I drink when I attend social functions but I do it on my terms.

Do you also suffer from an Inflammatory Bowel Disease? This is not a coincidence as eye inflammation is very common with gut diseases. I experienced a lot of eye issues when I was first diagnosed with Crohns Colitis. My eyes were sore, dry, and always bloodshot. As my disease progressed new symptoms appeared which included cataracts, and floaters.

Some of the eye problems and complications related to Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis are as follows:

Dry Eyes

Floaters

Uveitis -inflammation to uvea (middle layer of eye) may notice pain

Blurred vision

Crohns disease is an inflammatory condition which can cause inflammation of the eye. I noticed that when my Crohns Disease symptoms were bad then so were my eyes. This was very evident when I ate too much sugar, starchy carbs, or processed foods. I also experienced very red eyes when I was doing cleansing protocols, and carb reduction periods. When candida dies off and toxins are released it’s common to experience red eyes.

Crohn’s Eye Floaters

The floaters are like having a piece of dirt on your camera lense which appears in all the pictures. Everytime I moved my eyes the little spots were in my field of vision. I found the floaters to be a very scary crohn’s symptom. Floaters are a very common eye issue when you suffer from Ulcerative Colitis or Crohns.

The Good News

You can heal and reverse your IBD eye problems. You do this by healing yourself through adopting a healing approach. As your body heals the symptoms will disappear or rather slowly reverse. I noticed as I healed my eyes became less sore, less red, and my vision improved. The floaters slowly faded and eventually disappeared.

I know these eye symptoms can be very scary when you are not used to them. It’s important to realize that as you heal they will go away. Keep your attention on healing yourself and achieving remission. As you get in “the healing zone” many of the more serious IBD symptoms will start reversing. This is why it’s important to stay the path and remain consistent in the zone. The more time in the zone the more long term healing you will experience.

Why I gave up SUGAR for 2 YEARS and healed my Autoimmune Disease!

No joke! doing this literally changed my life. If your suffering from Crohns or Colitis this strategy can change your life.

WHY I Made This Decision?

I self diagnosed myself with an IBD with the help of google. My doctor disagreed, and agreed to send me for tests. In my mind, I accepted that I had an IBD. I started looking for options to keep the disease in check. My focus was finding natural strategies as I was scared of taking drugs. I learned about a diet called The SCD Diet, that was helping other people with IBD’s. There was nothing to loose, so I decided to give the diet a shot. I did a half ass version of the diet as I was lazy to read the book. This was SCD with cheats here and there.

Was It HARD?

You bet your ass it was! My sugar addiction was so brutal that I would chew chocolate bars and then spit them out. My cravings controlled me and I would eat anything I could find. I felt bad eating sugary foods and then would throw them in the garbage. I was so addicted I would go into the garbage later and retrieve them. The only way I could stop myself from eating the things I threw out was to spray them with Windex… I felt like a complete drug addict. Never, had I experienced something that had this much control over me.

After my initial struggle I decided to rid my house of all foods containing sugar and refined carbs. This is what I like to call the burn the bridge strategy. You are completely committing to your outcome and removing any option of failure.

Was It Worth It?

Without a doubt it was worth giving up sugar during this time. My health has improved on almost every front since dramatically reducing my processed sugar intake.

As much as I enjoy the taste of sugar it can be one of the most toxic and addicting substances on the planet. If you want to know exactly why it might be worth giving up I urge you to check out this awesome video.

I am not saying that you have to give sugar up forever but rather to help heal your gut then have it in small doses or during special occasions. Once I healed my gut I was able to tolerate it in smaller doses. As you heal your healing plan will allow more for intuitive decisions like how do I feel after I eat these sugary foods. Does sugar make me feel good or do I end up feeling scatter brained and experiencing inflammatory symptoms? If you have gut issues or suffer from an autoimmune disease you should consider giving up sugar for a few months. Let the results speak for themselves. I can tell you personally that reducing my sugar intake changed my life. You can see Why I gave up SUGAR for 2 YEARS and healed my Autoimmune Disease.

the day I was diagnosed was one of the shittiest days of my life! I was finally accepting an official label of what these symptoms have been over the last few years. Since I was newly diagnosed with Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, I did google search of all the things I had to look forward to:

Flare Ups

Medications

Weight Loss

Embarassing Symptoms

Trying to explain my disease to others

Surgeries (resections)

Potential complications

The list of symptoms was enough to make almost have a panic attack. It’s always worse in the beginning because we think the worst possible thoughts in every situation. Although being diagnosed with an IBD can be very scary it is not the end of the world.

Do I Have Options?

YES! you have options and they can change the course of your life. Never has there been such a good time to get diagnosed with an IBD. People are using a plethora of strategies to overcome their disease such as: diet, supplements, or alternative healing practitioners. There is not only one right approach to heal which is why multiple diet strategies have worked for many people. The key here is usually what the diets remove when compared to Standard American Diet.

What Now

I encourage you to spend time searching for inspiring stories of people who beat their diseases. Like you they felt hopeless in the beginning but were able to make changes and tweak along until they were living awesome lives. I know sometimes it’s hard to think about a brighter future when you feel shitty now.. but hearing other success stories will give you hope. I wish you nothing but the best in your healing journey.

Can you DIE from Crohns or Colitis or Can Inflammatory Bowel Diseases be fatal? YES, IBD’s can indeed kill you. You are not fated a death sentence when you are diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. IBD’s are usually life long degenerative diseases that negatively impact your quality of life. Most deaths that involve IBD’s are due to complications of the disease, long term toxicity of medications, or no more tissue left to to reconnect.

What is the life expectancy for a person with Crohns or Colitis

Research shows that IBD’s don’t shorten your lifespan but rather affect the quality of your life. You get to live a normal life span with a crappy quality of life. If your like me you’d probably take quality over quantity.

When I was diagnosed the doctor told me about how bad the disease is and the crappy things that I had to look forward to. I’d be unable to have kids, expect countless operations, and that I had a good chance getting colon cancer.

Are You Scared?

Being diagnosed with this crappy disease can make you feel horrible and hopeless. Before you get yourself too worried you must realize never has it been such a good time to get diagnosed with an IBD. More people are overcoming their diseases using a multitude of strategies, diets, and supplements. If you think I’m pulling your chain go search “how I overcame my Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis”. You will find countless stories of people who were just like you: sick and tired of being sick and tired. They made changes to their lifestyles and are now living better lives than they ever could have imagined.

A Needed Lesson

This disease has taught me a lesson about how fragile life can be and made me think about what actually matters. Sometimes we get caught up in life worrying about things that don’t matter like impressing people, buying materialistic crap, or having unrealistic expectations of our physical appearances. Beating this disease showed me that I’m capable of anything! I’ve learned that I care about free time, relationships, and experiences. I would not take back getting diagnosed because this disease has changed my life in so many amazing ways. Bullshit! your thinking.. but remember this when you finally beat this disease. Your perspective on life will change, you will be grateful, you will value people, and you will value your health.

I look back at the way I treated my body 5-7 years before I was diagnosed and it was brutal. It took getting a degenerative disease to make me change my habits. If you feel hopeless right now, please realize that you can beat this disease. Not only can you beat the disease but you can achieve optimal health in the process.

How To HEAL Any Disease Naturally Using HEALTH MODELING

Do you have a disease? or perhaps someone you care about is suffering with a disease? Have you experienced the loss of someone you love way too early? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Or feeling like you have no control over your life?

The concept I’m going to share today has the power to change your life and the people you care about. Please keep an open mind during the course of this video. Suspend any judgement or preconceived notions until the end. I’m the biggest advocate of healthy skepticism! This is How To HEAL Any Disease Naturally Using HEALTH MODELING

My Experience

I was suffering for a few years with not one but two degenerative disease called Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis. I went from being a young well built dude that was living the high life: great job, good looking woman, sports car, sports bike, lots of friends, and a great social life. Until my life changed having my first flare up. I lost 60+ lbs, went to the bathroom 20+ times per day, and I looked like a walking skeleton. I went from confident and happy to depressed, and completely suicidal. Life sucked and I felt hopeless. It’s hard to think positive about the future when you feel shitty NOW!

The DAY My Life Changed

It was 2008, and I decided to go see a business event featuring a self help guru known as Tony Robbins called The Power Within. Tickets were $300 which I thought was pretty expensive but something inside me told me I need to attend this event. They introduced Tony and then this giant came out to some exciting music. I will admit I thought the event was cheesy initially but the energy was unreal.

Tony started talking about something called “modeling” which in his words means if you want a specific result you must find someone who has already achieved what you are seeking. Tony said success leaves clues… Once you find these people you must find out what they did and copy it to the closest detail. It was like an explosion went off in my head. In an instant I went from being hopeless to hopeful!!

Until then, my focus was on suffering. I had embraced the victim mentality and I was asking the wrong questions! After this event I was very motivated. I went on a mission to find anyone who overcame their IBD, achieved long term remission, I read every book I could get my hands on, I reached out to authors, bloggers, and anyone with a success story. I kept track of what each person did and I plotted it down on a huge piece of cardboard. As the board filled up I noticed that there were quite a few common denominators. Things that lead to their sickness, things that made the disease worse, and what things helped them heal.

I began implementing these strategies and lifestyle changes into my own life. Within a few months I was beginning to feel better and every passing month I improved a little bit. After time passed through trial and error, and the right amount tweaking I was able to find lasting remission. As I’m posting this video I’ve been in remission for almost a decade. After using the modeling concept to heal my disease and achieve great health I decided I’d call it Health Modeling.

HOW To USE HEALTH MODELING

1) IDENTIFY your problem: What disease or condition do you have? Our modern medical system usually does a great job diagnosing people.

2) Look for OTHERS who have SOLVED it: Try using a Google Search, Youtube, or Amazon book search you will find someone who has solved your problem.

3) REACH Out to Them: This might be sending them an email, making a comment on their social media streams, or talking to them in person.

4) Find out WHAT they did and COPY IT: Whether it’s trying a specific diet, taking a supplement, or doing a specific protocol then do what you need to do! Perhaps it’s reading their book, buying their program, or reviewing their videos, site information, or hiring them as a personal coach. The simple take away here is that you want the results they have so you need to copy them or follow their instructions to the best of your ability.

Healthy Skepticism

I’m teaching you about modeling others but I do not want you to blindly trust everything that someone says. Do your homework to see if things check out. Trust your gut feeling by asking yourself does this make sense? or could this possibly work? Testimonials may question your belief system but you must keep an open mind. During your research you will likely find common denominators such as other people who have overcome a disease using a specific diet or protocol. As Tony Robbins said success leaves CLUES! Do your homework and trust your GUT.

Health Modeling is about RESULTS not about what people “think” to be right.

Our current medical system has no incentive to heal diseases as they are paid whether treatment works or not. When the incentive becomes in favor of healing people you will see massive breakthroughs in medical science.

Modeling Approach works on “everything” in your life

Modeling is the REAL DEAL whether you are using it to:

Increase sales in your business

Become wealthy

Get out of debt

Improve your relationships

Improve athletic performance

Get ripped and fit

Overcome almost any disease

The potential is endless. Modeling strategies can change your life in so many ways!

Learn From My Mistakes

I’ve spent so much time and money trying to figure things out on my own. My progress was constantly back and fourth making some BIG mistakes along the way. I’ve learned that hiring coaches, finding mentors, purchasing books, E-courses, or connecting directly with people who have the results you seek will save you so much time, energy, and money in the long run.

Approach things with a healthy dose of skepticism. Once you have picked an approach, coach, or diet spend your time embracing it! Have faith in the process and tweak along the way.

GIVE Health Modeling a Shot

Whether you or someone you love is suffering from a disease this approach can change your life. I urge you to spend a few minutes searching Google & YouTube to find the stories of people who have naturally overcome the most severe disease. Switch your search criteria to how I beat my cancer naturally. Never has there been so many testimonials of people who beat their diseases and are now be living awesome lives.

Health Modeling is an amazing approach to healing and I’m eternally grateful that I learned about it. I send a HUGE Thank You to Tony Robbins for being there when I needed him. You changed my life!

Share this video with people that you know who are sick or have loved ones who are experiencing a difficult time.

Thanks a million for for your support!

What is Lactic Acidosis?

It is the result of the body burning sugar for too long. When this happens you end up with an excess of waste products from sugar metabolism.

Waste Products + Acid = Lactic Acidosis.

The waste products accumulate in the blood and crowd out oxygen. When the oxygen is depleted the body develops a condition called Hypoxia+. Hypoxia causes a loss of nutrients throughout the body. The cells starve and die, tissues die, and eventually organs die. Lactic Acidosis is not classified as a disease but rather the mechanism of disease.

Lactic Acidosis is also known by these names:

Corey Cycle

Sugar Acidosis

Cachexia

Lactic Acid Cycle

Sugar Disease

How It Works

Lets call this “Continuous Sugar Metabolism” You have the cell functioning under sugar metabolism where excess carbs are consumed. Waste is created that includes: Lactate, Acetate, Ethanol, Acetaldehyde, along with Acid.

These waste products flood the liver with toxins creating liver deficiency, and toxicity known as toxemia. Eventually, the liver is unable to keep up with the toxic burden. Your health usually deteriorates and disease will follow.

As I mentioned earlier Lactic Acidosis is not a disease but rather the mechanism of disease. The former Nobel Peace prize winner Dr Otto Warberg+ discovered that all normal cells require oxygen to live, but Cancer cells thrive without oxygen. This is a rule without exception.

“Warberg stated that a lack of oxygen and acidosis are 2 sides of the same coin. Where you have one, you have the other”

How Do You Fix Lactic Acidosis (LA)

LA is like a dirty fish tank. The dirty water is like the toxic blood. Fish are the cells. The pump is the equivalent of the circulatory system. The filter is like the liver. You need to clean the water, clean the floor scum, clean the glass, change or clean the filter, and clean or replace the pump.

Unlike the fish tank the human body is an amazing self-healing machine. It has the ability to heal and restore itself. Remove the toxins, flood the body with nutrients via food and supplements, implement a diet strategy that doesn’t produce toxic waste products, and cleanse the body. The body is resilient and has the ability to bounce back from almost anything.

I’m dedicating this video to an inspiring dude named Dr Darren Schmidt. His channel has taught me so much over the last year. I’m grateful for his efforts in educating and helping people. He’s at the forefront of bringing Lactic Acidosis back into the healing equation. You can check out Dr Darren’s channel using this link. He runs a practice out of Ann Arbor Michigan.

Stay tuned for an upcoming video that will show you why a ketogenic diet and raw vegan diet can both heal chronic disease. I’ll give you a hint they both involve fixing lactic acidosis.

Intermittent Fasting for healing Crohn’s and Colitis. Does it work? or is just another diet fad? Everyone and their dog seem to be doing Intermittent Fasting (IF) these days. Whether for health conditions like IBD’s, Diabetes, or famous athletes and movie stars using it to get ripped. People are using intermittent fasting to help their autoimmune diseases with remarkable results*.

Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Decreases Inflammation (awesomeness)

Stabilizes insulin and increases insulin sensitivity

Body remembers how to become “Fat Adapted” by tapping into body fat for stored energy

Triggers a process called “Autophagy” which is when your body cleans house by literally eating unnecessary components and old cells.

MMA CHAMP GSP Using Fasting to Minimize Colitis Symptoms

It’s great to see that the benefits of fasting are becoming more main stream. Watch this video and you can see how GSP is using Intermittent Fasting to heal and overcome his Ulcerative Colitis. He is not on a strict diet at this point and using (IF) as main tool to control his Colitis. On top of successfully controlling his IBD symptoms he looks super lean. He speaks about how his body composition has changed and how fat has been reduced and muscle mass has been increased. I’m very happy that at superstar like GSP is showing some of the amazing healing benefits of fasting.

My Experience with Intermittent Fasting

I was working with a guy at my day job who was in great shape or that most of us would call shredded. I noticed he never ate lunches or anything during the day. The only thing that I seen him consume was 1-2 black coffees during our shift. I asked him why he never ate at work? He told me that he was previously a very competitive MMA fighter and fasting was a tool he used to stay lean. On top of the physical benefits of looking ripped it had health benefits such as lowering inflammation, and keeping insulin balanced throughout the day. I was intrigued by his results and I probably asked him 100 questions that day.

                       Giving It a Try

I was excited and decided to give intermittent fasting a try. I would fast during the week and weekends I would enjoy and eat freely. The following week I decided I would stop eating at 10pm and have my first meal at 12pm. I fasted for 14 hrs leaving me with a window of 10 hrs to eat. The first week was challenging as I experienced hunger pangs in the morning. By the second week, I was getting used to it and I could minimize the hunger by drinking a few glasses of water. A few weeks passed and I noticed that I was loosing body fat looking better than ever. On top of the obvious visual benefits I noticed that my joint pains had disappeared, energy was more stable, and I was sleeping better.

I continued to do my monday to friday fasting for the rest of the summer and I felt really good. I fell off the wagon a few times during the first year. It’s hard to say no to your buddies when your fasting and you want to go out and eat with them during lunches.

5 Years of Intermittent Fasting

It’s hard to believe that I have been using fasting for health benefits for 5 years and my results have been nothing short of awesome. I’ve gotten very lean using this strategy without having to do endless cardio. I love this because losing fat this way is almost effortless once you get use to it.

(IF) Is more of a lifestyle than a diet which is what creates long term health benefits. This is where the magic is! I’ve changed my habits around eating and I’ve reaped the health benefits whether being more lean, increased energy, and enjoying great meals without worrying about gaining unnecessary fat.

Can Intermittent Fasting help Autoimmune Diseases

Intermittent fasting reduces inflammation, corrects insulin resistance, gives the gut a rest, helps repair the leaky gut*,and repairs your cells* all which help heal autoimmune diseases.
