Is there a Difference?

Crohn’s and Colitis: What is the Difference? When I was going through the process of being diagnosed this was on my mind. I was hoping that I had the less severe out of the two diseases. Well that did not work out for me as I was diagnosed with both Crohn’s and Colitis yeppers I hit the disease lottery!

What “THEY” Say

Crohns and Colitis are both Inflammatory Bowel diseases (IBD’s) and are considered to be autoimmune conditions. Crohn’s Disease can affect any part of your GI tract from your mouth to your butt hole. With Crohns, the inflammation can be in all layers of the gut lining and randomly scattered. Colitis is located in the colon (large intestine) and usually starts in the anus. Bleeding is more common in Colitis than Crohn’s Disease.

These two disease’s have more in common than they do differences. The common symptoms are some of the following:

  • Excess Diarrhea
  • Bleeding rectum
  • Fever
  • Night Sweats (soaked bed)
  • Nausea
  • Weight Loss
  • Fatigue
  • Pale complexion
  • Flare ups

What “I” Say

The major difference between theses to diseases initially is the location of the inflammation. As time goes on and the disease progresses many people are diagnosed with both IBD’s. It’s also common to have people diagnosed with multiple autoimmune conditions added to their IBD’s such as: Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s and others.

The more we learn about autoimmune diseases there seems to be a common denominator and that is a Leaky Gut. If you search the symptoms of various autoimmune diseases you will see the symptoms are all very similar.  The common denominators and the path of progression are also similar. If you solve the Leaky Gut you will solve your autoimmune condition and symptoms will be reduced or removed.

When I was healing the progression of my disease began to roll “backwards”.  I went from full blown Crohn’s-Colitis to mild IBD, into IBS state, then edging towards normal with some food intolerances, and eventually to awesome health with no symptoms. It’s pretty amazing that we can roll back time to get our health back. It’s important to remember that we did not get sick in a month so it will take some time to heal and achieve symptom free status. With that said the body is an amazing machine that wants to heal. You need remove the toxins, give it what it needs, and get out of the way!

Our bodies are self healing and self regulating they know how to heal it’s built into our preprogrammed software (genetic tools). I can’t stress this statement enough!

About the author

The GUT Ninja

Jay aka "The Gut Ninja" Health Hacker trying to pay it forward. I'm a dude whose life was flipped upside down diagnosed with severe Crohns-Colitis, and R. Arthritis. I lost almost 60lbs in less than a year. I felt bad for myself for a few months then I made a decision that I was going to beat this death sentence. I went on a mission to study "remission" what things other people did to improve their Gut troubles and live normal lives. I turned myself into a walking Frankenstein and through lots of trial and error I was able to achieve remission. I've been med free flare up free for 10+ years. My mission is to help other people overcome autoimmune disease.
