Newly Diagnosed with Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
the day I was diagnosed was one of the shittiest days of my life! I was finally accepting an official label of what these symptoms have been over the last few years. Since I was newly diagnosed with Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, I did google search of all the things I had to look forward to:
- Flare Ups
- Medications
- Weight Loss
- Embarassing Symptoms
- Trying to explain my disease to others
- Surgeries (resections)
- Potential complications
The list of symptoms was enough to make almost have a panic attack. It’s always worse in the beginning because we think the worst possible thoughts in every situation. Although being diagnosed with an IBD can be very scary it is not the end of the world.
Do I Have Options?
YES! you have options and they can change the course of your life. Never has there been such a good time to get diagnosed with an IBD. People are using a plethora of strategies to overcome their disease such as: diet, supplements, or alternative healing practitioners. There is not only one right approach to heal which is why multiple diet strategies have worked for many people. The key here is usually what the diets remove when compared to Standard American Diet.
What Now
I encourage you to spend time searching for inspiring stories of people who beat their diseases. Like you they felt hopeless in the beginning but were able to make changes and tweak along until they were living awesome lives. I know sometimes it’s hard to think about a brighter future when you feel shitty now.. but hearing other success stories will give you hope. I wish you nothing but the best in your healing journey.
