Using KETO Diet for Autoimmune Disease
Considering Using KETO Diet for autoimmune disease than I think your on the right track. This diet approach has worked wonders for many people. Can you use this strategy to overcome any disease? maybe not every disease but surely improve the vast majority of modern lifestyle diseases that plague our society.
Is the Keto Diet Safe?
It’s funny that this even crosses our minds considering the average person eats The Standard American Diet (SAD). Likely, the unhealthiest diet on earth. A Diet that has lead to an epidemic of sickness, obesity, and disease. Not only is the keto diet safe but it might be one of the healthiest diet approaches available.
The ketogenic diet is a trending fad diet, but ultimately it’s nothing new. The industry is utilizing the process of being in nutritional ketosis and labeling it The Keto Diet. This is to hype it up for the sake of marketing. Diets that have successfully healed autoimmune disease are lower carb diets like: SCD, GAPS, Paleo, Life Without Bread, Candida Diet, and Gerson Therapy. The carb allowances maybe different, but the healing common denominator is the same which is the restriction of carbohydrates.
Ketosis is achieved by reducing or eliminating Carbs!
Ketosis is achieved by restricting carbohydrates “NOT” eating high fat. I know this through experience and lots of trial and error. I’ve utilized a ketogenic diet for 3 years and done intermittent fasting for 5+ years. I can achieve verifiable ketosis (via pee strip) every time using the following approaches: carnivore diet, typical keto diet macros 75/20/5, or intermittent fasting 16:8 or 20:4.
The MAGIC is WHAT the KETO diet REMOVES & Minimizes
It’s not the Keto Diet alone that helps people lose weight and improve their health. It’s the things that are reduced and minimized when compared to the Standard American Diet such as:
- Carbohydrates
- Sugar
- Gluten
- Processed foods
- Hydrogenated veggie oils (PUFAS)
- Milk
- High carb junk food “chips + cookies”
The Keto Diet Benefits
I have been doing a Ketogenic Diet for 3 years and it’s been awesome! Here are some of the BENEFITS I’ve experienced so far:
- Elimination of joint pain
- Stabilized energy
- Improved mental cognition
- Clear skin
- Awesome sleep
- Very easy to stay lean all year round
How I overcome Adherence issue with Keto? (Staying the Course)
One of the biggest issues with keto for many people is that it can be hard to adhere to for long periods of time. It goes against our human nature to not eat carbs when they are available or in season. I’ve been able to successfully utilize Keto for the past 3 years because I use a Cyclical version of the diet (CKD). This means that I go pretty strict keto for 5 days and the other 2 days I eat what I want. As I mentioned earlier I do intermittent fasting on a daily basis. My cheat days are ultimately a cheat meal followed by a delicious dessert. It’s hard to overeat when you only eat 1-2 meals per day. Using this approach makes it part of my lifestyle, not some crappy deprivation diet.
The “best diet” is that one that you can adhere to! One that becomes your lifestyle not a diet, which implies you will stop it.
