Before being diagnosed with my IBD I’d experience frequent night sweats. I’d wake up and both my body and the bed were completely soaked. There would be a wet spot on the mattress the size of my body. The night sweats happened on and off for a few years. They increased dramatically when I was having a flare. I know how annoying continuous fever’s and night sweats can be.
Why does Crohns and Colitis cause night sweats
Why does Crohns and Colitis cause night sweats? There is no concrete evidence why your body experiences intense fevers, but I can provide what I believe to be the reason. The most common explanation for a fever is that the body heats itself up to fight and kill: infections, germs, viruses, and opportunistic bacteria. It does this the way that an oven heats up to high heat to clean itself. There is a pathogenic component to IBD’s and other Autoimmune diseases which the body is constantly trying to get rid of. Dysbiosis is where the friendly bacteria is overtaken by the opportunistic bacteria, yeast, and fungi. A healthy gut has a ratio of good to bad bacteria that is 80/20. When dysbiosis occurs this ratio can be inverted to 20/80 for the bad guys. This means your body and immune system are fighting a constant battle attempting restore balance.
